DMT Modular has developed a temporary housing project in The Hague to address the urgent needs of vulnerable groups. The project consists of 70 independent units across five platforms, each with private entrances, bathrooms, and kitchenettes. Located at Henri Faasdreef, the units provide immediate shelter for those experiencing homelessness. The housing is intended to remain for three years before being dismantled and relocated as needed.

In the initial phase, DMT Modular focused on site preparation, which included clearing the lot and laying down essential utilities like cables and piping. After this groundwork, we began installing prefabricated housing units. Surrounding the residences, wooden walkways were constructed to connect various platforms and enhance accessibility. These walkways not only facilitate movement between housing units but also promote a sense of community among residents.

The housing units are designed for functionality and prioritize comfort and quality of life. Each unit accommodates a single resident, offering independence and privacy. Equipped with modern amenities, the project aims to be fully operational by May 2022, providing much-needed relief to the local community.

Collaboration for Sustainable Solutions
DMT Modular partnered with the Municipality of The Hague to provide effective housing solutions tailored to the specific needs of vulnerable populations. Our collaboration with Bedmobile BV played a crucial role in initiating this project, ensuring that it met the city’s requirements for quality and sustainability. 

The SteelHouses brand, representing a collaboration between DMT Modular Constructions BV and IQTA Projectontwikkeling BV, emphasizes quality and durability in its offerings. Together, we produce prefabricated housing units that are not only quick to assemble but also designed with sustainability in mind. DMT Modular manufactures these units in-house, while IQTA oversees the comprehensive development process, ensuring that every aspect of the project meets high standards.

Our modular housing units are defined by their adaptability, flexibility, and mobility. Easily assembled and disassembled, they can serve various functions, including residential, care, or lodging purposes. Stackable up to three stories, these units maximize space for different demographic groups. They also meet all current standards for temporary buildings, ensuring safety and reliability.
By adopting a modular approach, DMT Modular responds to the evolving demands of today’s investors and the housing market. This method provides immediate housing solutions and addresses temporary housing needs through relocatable units. Location & Context
Project Henri Faasdreef: A Vision for the Future
Recognizing the advantages of modular construction, the project initiator enlisted DMT Modular and SteelHouses for the Henri Faasdreef location. The housing units are strategically stacked and aligned to form a cohesive assembly on designated platform islands. Each island accommodates 14 units, culminating in a total of 70 residences distributed across five islands, all interconnected by walkways leading to a communal parking area and shared facilities.

From an urban planning perspective, the decision to create a second ground level was made in response to the site’s challenging, marshy soil conditions. As a result, the Municipality of The Hague stipulated the need for temporary or removable foundations to ensure the stability and safety of the housing units.

The temporary housing units supplied and assembled by DMT Modular are designed for sustainable future use. Investors can expect a responsible return on investment while supporting a project that prioritizes social responsibility and environmental sustainability.
Background: Addressing Housing Needs
The vacant lot at Henri Faasdreef and Oude Middenweg has been transformed into a temporary housing solution with 70 rental units. These sustainable, high-standard units will remain on-site for about three years, pending further development.
Each unit offers a fully equipped, energy-efficient living space, including a tiled bathroom, kitchen with induction cooktop, microwave, refrigerator, solar panels, and heat pumps.
These homes are intended for individuals in emergency shelters awaiting permanent housing. With future plans for the area including housing, education, and commercial spaces.
